I am a multi-disciplinary artist who has worked in writing (both critical and creative), performance (dance, film, video, cabaret, and contemporary music), and fine arts—as a sculptor, painter, designer, teacher, and life model. Continuing a forty-year career in arts and humanities, I am a cultural critic and theorist (Philosophilia), an essayist and occasional poet, and a skilled debater and clarifier, with an extensive history in arts journalism and social commentary, and further experience as a director and entrepreneur. I have danced with the Australian Ballet, written for The Australian, sung torch songs in a Berlin nightclub, sold my sculpture to an American rockstar—and, as Kalyn Farnmir, stood right beside Obi-Wan Kenobi at a bar on the planet Coruscant.

This unusual breadth of practice keeps me flexible, knowledgeable and passionate about the intersection of art forms, praxes, philosophies, and life—not to mention fiercely engaged with the temper and turmoil of the times. I enjoy working in a variety of environments and relish adapting to new challenges. Unconventional, friendly, self-motivated and naturally collaborative, I thrive on work that stretches me, my knowledge, my networks and my understanding.

SELECTED WORK HISTORY 

CURRENT POSITION: Creative Director, Queens Heart Rehearsal, arts and music production house, Marrickville, Sydney

I am responsible for executive decisions on space formatting (ballet studio, dressing room, etc), organising functional operating systems, general aesthetic design, sourcing distinctive artworks and furniture, designing and executing a large mural, writing website content, and generally assisting the CEO, Julie Paul McQueen. Once Queens Heart opens, I’ll have input into programming, daily operations, and special events. My major project for 2026 will be a cabaret show, La Chatte Rouge.
